The crowd was filled to the rafters for the 2013 edition of the Sale of Stars. The sale averaged $19,344 (unofficial) under the management of Brian Craswell Auctions Ltd. and Blondin Int’l Inc. The sale lineup featured lots and lots of type and high genomic numbers as well as plenty of individuals from deep, popular cow families.
First in the ring and selling for $150,000 was Futurecrest Aftershock Tahlia (VG-88-2y) the fancy “Aftershock” daughter who had been first senior 2-year-old and reserve intermediate champion at Autumn Opportunity and a class winner at Ontario Summer Show. Consigned by Futurecrest Holsteins, Aylmer, Ont., and Quality Holsteins, Vaughan, Ont., she was purchased via a phone bid by Gene Iager, Fulton, Md. This young cow, who is projected to 242-268-245% BCA and is bred to ”McCutchen”, is a daughter of Salem Goldwyn Theresa (Ex-94), the ”Goldwyn” who was All-Canadian junior 3-year-old in 2009. The second dam is the two-time Reserve All-Canadian Veazland-R Bstar Tabby (Ex-2E-6*).
Topping the sale at $190,000 was Crasdale TJR Supersire Aroma, a September 2013 “Supersire” from the Apple family who is the number one Red Carrier female in the world with genomics of +3428 GPA LPI and +2584 GTPI. Selling in absentia and with lots of bull contracts, she was purchased by Ernest Kueffner, Boonsboro, Md., from consignors Ferme Blondin, St-Placide Que., Crasdale Farms, Hunter River, P.E.I., and Tim Rauen, Farley, Iowa. This valuable calf was a daughter of KHW Alchemy Adeline-Red-ET, an April 2012 “Alchemy” who sold for $22,000 in the sale and is a maternal sister to KHW Regiment Apple 3-Red-ETN (VG-89) who was recently grand champion at World Dairy Expo in Wisconsin. The next six dams are all Excellent.
Elite Dairy Genomics and Pristine Genetics of IL were the final bidders at $82,000 for Lot 37 – Clelor Supersire Birdie, a 7/13 Supersire with a +2498 GTPI and +3481 GPA LPI out of Marbri Oman Oman Bea (VG-85-CAN), then nine more VG & EX dams back into the Quietcove Valiant Fawn family. A full sister to the #2 GTPI male in the world, Birdie was consigned by Weber and Maple Lawn of Ontario.
