Apple Daughter Tops at UK Black and White Sale

The 34th edition of the Black & White sale held at the Borderway Sale Centre attracted a global audience with buyers recorded from seven countries.  Trade topped at 16,000gns with 42 animals selling for or above £5000.  100 lots sold to average £4410 per life with only seven heifers not selling.

One of the most special lots ever offered during the Black & White sales serios topped the sale at 16,000gns.  Two Altitude daughters of KHW Regiment Apple Red were offered on choice by Logan & Jones Holsteins.  These two unique calves were only a few weeks old and were purchased by Hullcrest Holsteins from Holland.

Selling for 9,500gns was a powerful framed daughter of Miss Apple Snapple Red.  She was sired by Thunder Storm and was consigned by Holben Holsteins.  Snapple is the highest classified daughter of KHW Regiment Apple Red completing two generations of Excellent 96 cows and was the recent Grand Champion at the North American Open a few weeks ago. She was purchased by Tregibby Holsteins and Shaun Davies.

The first Red & White Cheers to ever sell sold for 9,500gns to Designer Holsteins.  Panda Unique Cheerleader Red was sired by Amaretto Red and bred from an Unstopabull daughter of Unique Dempsey Cheers.  Dempsey Cheers is one of the most popular show cows in North America wining Reserve Intermediate Champion at World Dairy Expo in 2018.

Woodcrest King Doc has continued to impress this year breeding the modern kind of Holstein heifers.  Selling for 8,200gns was one of his exceptional daughters, Wolfa Kind Doc Fleur was consigned by Sue & Richard Armstrong and was purchased by Mr McNeil from the Cairnpat Holstein herd near Stranraer.  Fleur’s grand dam is the popular Excellent 95 Goldwyn cow from one of the best lines of the Chief Faith cow family.

A Tatoo daughter of the All Britain winning Senior two-year-old sold for 8,000gns to Scott Forsyth from the Baltier Holstein herd in the south west of Scotland.  Riverdane Tatoo Springsteen displayed the perfect balance her dam exhibited when she won at both the National Holstein Show and UK Dairy Expo.  The foundation cow in this pedigree was Matilda EX97, a legend from the Pinehurst stud and is the same family as the Saviore Fare line that topped the sale in 2018 from Whinchat Holsteins.

Two full sisters by Altitude sold for 7,500gns and 7,000gns consigned by Redsky and Glasson Holsteins, respectively.  Their dam is Luck-E Awesome Jacuzzi who is a maximum classified three-year-old in the USA and who sold for $30,000 in the Best of Luck-E sale in 2019.  Both heifers had impressive Genomic Type figures with the Polled heifer from Redsky going to GS Farming, Cheshire and the Glasson heifer was purchased by Boclair Holsteins.

Braedale Goldwyn continues to defy time with his daughters still demanding top prices.  Three classy Goldwyn daughters stared in this year’s sale and topped at 7,000gns for Absolute Goldwyn Aperol Spritz.  Her third dam was the dam of the top selling lot KHW Regiment Apple Red with impressive constructor sires Doorman and Uno sired the dam and grand dam in this special pedigree.  Spritz was purchased by the Davlea Holstein herd from Somerset in the south west.

Wiltor Silver Centerpiece was the Grand Champion at UK Dairy Expo in the Spring and was the top seller in 2019 at 43,000gns during the Wiltor Dispersal.  Selling for 7,000gns from her amazing full sister was Overside Denver Crimson who was purchased by Scott Forsyth from the Baltier Holstein herd in the south west of Scotland.

One of the most intriguing lots in the sale was the offering from the Fleming family owners of the world renowned Potterswalls Jersey herd in N. Ireland.  This year they celebrated fifty years in the Pedigree Jersey business and to mark this monumental achievement they gave breeders the opportunity to choose any heifer from the entire crop of 2020 born animals.  This lot attracted bids from across Europe, North America and Australia before finally being purchased by a breeder from N. Ireland going to Alan McNeely near Londonderry.

An impressive group of milking animals opened the sale with lot 1 selling for 6,400gns.  Denmire Abbott Reba was consigned by Denmire Holsteins, she was one point from a maximum classification and was sired by Willsbro Abbott and was bred from five generations of high scoring Excellent dams all with massive lifetime production.  This amazing young cow was purchased by Emerald Isle Genetics in the Rep. of Ireland.
