U.S. milk production during May was up more than one percent on the year at 18.6 billion pounds.
Production per cow in the major 23 states was 21 pounds higher than last year and was the highest during May since the reporting began in 2003. The number of milk cows on U.S. farms was unchanged from April.
South Dakota, Michigan, New York and Wisconsin saw the largest gains in milk production compared to last year. Michigan lead the nation during May for the most pounds of milk produced per cow at 2,285.
