On Monday, June 8, 2015,Mansfield fire and ambulance crews were dispatched to a land rescue in Rutland Township at 9:55AM.
Information obtained by FIRST News Now indicated at first that there was 1 person trapped inside a silo on a farm located along the Gorwood Road. Fire personnel nearby immediately responded to the scene. Upon arriving on scene within minutes, personnel soon realized that there were 2 individuals trapped inside the 80 foot silo.
Wellsboro Fire Department’s aerial unit was immediately requested, however, that unit was said to be unavailable, but Wellsboro crew responded to assist at the scene. At which time, The Mansfield Crane was next to respond to the scene.
Usually in silo incidents fire crews work quickly to check on patients and supply oxygen to the patients.
These types of incidents are very serious as silos can contain toxic fumes. Which seems to be the case in this farming accident.
This is exactly what fire crews did at the scene to try and rescue two men trapped in the silo in they were working. Although rescue crews never gave up, 26 year old, Jason Kingsley of Mainesburg passed away. It was reported to FIRST News Now that Jason Kingsley was a newly hired farmhand who began working that morning at the farm
The other worker was 39 year old, Eric Stone who lives along the Gor Wood road nearby the farm where the accident occurred.
A family member reported that the two men were filling the silo when the chute got plugged. At which time gases built up and over both men.
Eric Stone’s rescue was witnessed by his fiancé Samantha Johnson, as fire crews pulled Stone out of the silo after nearly 3 hours. Stone was transported to Arnot Ogden Hospital in Elmira, NY, where he was admitted.
At this time Samantha Johnson, their 4 children and other family are still awaiting word on test results, before doctors can tell if Stone has suffered any permanent damage or not.
The family is very thankful to all the fire personnel who helped in this rescue.
Please continue keep the Kingsley and Stone families in your prayers.
