The reduction of the Longbridgemuir herd owned by Alistair Goldie, Longbridge Muir, Dumfries took place at Borderway, Carlisle on Wednesday 29th August 2012. The incredible summer conditions or the complete lack of summer conditions has resulted in a shortage of winter rations at Longbridge Muir and the decision to reduce numbers was thought to be the best option.
The cows were ideally suited to what today’s modern milk producers expect their dairy cows to look like. The majority of the animals on offer had super attached udders and great feet & legs; the perfect type to be easily managed in almost any dairy enterprise.
A top price of 2,200gns was achieved twice for two very classy uddered heifers both sired by Annan Champion. Longbridgemuir AC Primado was the first giving 32kgs and sold to Mr T Forsyth of Isle Farm, Whithorn and the following lot Longbridgemuir AC Jenny fresh in May giving 26kgs equalled the top price selling to Messrs J Marshall & Son of Brownrigg Farm, Dumfries.
It was a cow in her third lactation that topped the price charts, Longbridgemuir Rolex Primado. She had just completed her second with a record of 10,000kgs and was fresh giving 41kgs. She was sired by Bosside Rolex and now joins the herd of Bradleys Farms Ltd, Park Farm, Lancashire for 2,150gns.
Also selling for 2,150gns was Longbridgemuir Jayz Grace, a daughter of Hornland Jayz, she had an outstanding mammary for a cow calved just one week and now joins Mr T Forsyth of Isle Farm, Whithorn herd.
Another freshly calved cow giving 30kgs was next on the list, Longbridgemuir Rocky Gypsy GP80 sold for 2,120gns to Mr P Mason, The Haven, Shrewsbury. She was sired by Logan Mr Rocky from the Gypsy cow family renowned for their exceptional longevity and originally developed by the Brewster family owners of the Boclair herd.
The Goldie family would like to thank all the buyers and everyone who supported their sale and hope their animals are very successful in their new homes.
