Ongoing negotiations for the export of Mexican dairy products to China are advancing after a round of food safety inspections, says Mexico’s government food safety body.
Chinese inspectors audited Mexico’s prospective dairy processing facilities to verify whether ‘sufficient guarantees’ exist for the safety of milk powders and dairy products.
The National Health Service for Food Safety and Quality (SENASICA) recently accompanied chinese inspectors from the General Administration of Quality Supervision and Quarantine (AQSIQ) around plants in Chihuahua and Guanajuato.
Already exporting strawberries, tequila, beef and pork to China, among others, SENASICA hopes it can forge a way into China’s considerable dairy segment.
SENASICA noted China’s imports are currently dominated by Australian and New Zealand.
A spokesperson said: “Main exporters Australia and New Zealand supply around 67 per cent of Chinese imports. The European Union makes up 21 per cent and the US around ten per cent.”
