Holstein Canada Welcomes New National Director

12694766_955931254486116_7987195675100199112_o[1]Holstein Canada, Brantford, Ont., announced on February 9th that Dennis Werry of Oshawa, Ont., has been elected as the new National Director for Northern & Central Ontario. The position was vacant as a result of the upcoming retirement of the current National Director in that electoral district, President John Buckley. Werry has been elected as the successful candidate by the membership in that district. He will begin his mandate following the Holstein Canada Annual General Meeting to be held in Banff, Alta., on April 23, 2016.

Dennis Werry milks 80 cows under the Loa-De-Mede prefix and farms 550 acres just north of Oshawa, Ont. The fourth generation operation is farmed in partnership with his wife Cindy, son John and daughter-in-law Heather, and recently the herd was moved into a new GEA robotic compost pack barn.

Werry is a Past President of the Ontario Holstein Branch; a past Director on the Ontario Holstein Branch Board of Directors from 2002-2010; and has been an Ontario Summer Show Committee Member since the show’s conception. Werry believes one of Holstein Canada’s first responsibilities is to maintain communication between the Association and its provincial Branches, and in turn, the member producers across the country. He is looking forward to sharing his perspective as a producer operating with robots; insight that will be increasingly important as the dairy industry continues to change quickly, and more producers install robotic equipment in their operations.
