The Canadian Dairy Network (CDN) web site at www.cdn.ca is often referred to as the world standard for easy and open access to genetic and genomic evaluation information for dairy cattle globally. This world-class reputation is evidenced through the demand and usage by people in Canada and around the world.

During 2012, the popularity of the CDN web site grew to surpass one million visits during the year, as shown in Figure 1. In the five years from 2008 to 2012, the number of visits to the CDN web site grew significantly from 548,514 to over one million (82 percent).

Figure 2 shows the growth in the number of unique visitors per month to the CDN web site. From the average of up to 11,600 unique visitors per month prior to 2010, the CDN web site has attracted a growth of 43 percent in two years to reach an average of over 16,700 different visitors every month. While the majority of visitors to the CDN site are domestic users from Canada, people from over one hundred countries have found value in the information provided freely by CDN.
CDN General Manager, Brian Van Doormaal commented “It is great to see the growing number of people from Canada and worldwide interested in Canadian dairy cattle genetics and benefiting from CDN’s web services.”
Canadian Dairy Network (CDN) is the national genetic evaluation centre for dairy cattle and provides services to Canadian dairy producers and member organizations including breed associations, DHI agencies, A.I. organizations and Dairy Farmers of Canada. It also serves as the hub of the national Data Exchange System by which all dairy cattle improvement industry organizations share authorized data collected from dairy herds across the country.
