2017 International Dairy Week Judges Announced

We are thrilled that the following personnel will make up the Judging Panel officiating at IDW 2017.

All Breeds National Youth Show – Mr Dan Carroll, United States of America

dan-carrollDan Carroll from College Station Texas, is the Dairy Programs Manager for Sexing Technologies. In this role Dan has connection to coordinating the male and female program at ST Gen. Dan is also the Sales Manager for Australia and New Zealand.

Dan Carroll is a graduate of the University of Minnesota in Animal and Plant Systems. Upon graduation Dan has worked in multiple roles in AI, from Mating Cows Breeding cows as Technician to Picture and Tour coordination and Sire Analyst work.

Judging has taken Dan to multiple international countries including South America, Australia Central America, Asia as well as numerous State and National Shows in the USA. Dan has judged at IDW and at the Royal Sydney Show.
Dan and his wife Candace reside in College Station TX and have two sons, Casey and Drew.

IDW Sheri Martin Memorial Youth Showmanship Awards – Mr Cameron Yarnold – Australia

c-yarnoldCameron Yarnold, 22 is the owner of Arrallik Holsteins based at Wingham, New South Wales. Cameron comes from a strong family farming background where he is the fourth generation dairy farmer on his mother’s side, Oxley Vale Holsteins, two times master breeder and third generation on his father’s side, Killarra Park Holsteins. Cameron established his stud “Arrallik Holsteins” in 2007 and combined with Master Breeder herd Killarra Park, Cameron and the Yarnold family farm and milk around 120 stud Holsteins and Jerseys on 350 acres. Arrallik Holsteins has had great success with winning IDW Juvenile Champion in 2009 and Supreme Champion at Sydney Royal in 2010 Reserve Intermediate Sydney Royal 2015 and recently Reserve and Honourable mention Juvenile at Sydney Royal 2016.

Cameron is a leader at the National All Breeds Youth Camp. He was the winner of the NSW state Junior judging final in 2013. Cameron has judged shows at Toowomba Royal, Sydney Royal, Murray Bridge, Gympie, Berry, Wauchope, Cobargo, Tasmania, Adelaide Royal and most recently has been The Associate Judge for the 2016 Victorian Winter Fair.

National Illawarra Show – Mr Michael Heath – USA

michael-heathMichael Heath was brought up on Spring Valley Jersey Farm,Westminster, MD where his family instilled his passion for Purebred Dairy Cattle at a young age. Michael has made a living as a cattle merchandizer and breeder. He started as a cattle fitter which enabled him to have the contacts to start in the cattle marketing business.  Heath has managed many sales over the Years, most recently Rendezvous at River Valley which was the 2nd highest Jersey Average of all time.
In the beginning these two Holstein cows got Heath up and going in the Holstein business:
Freundly Acres Linjet Murphy, EX96 and Kingstead Cheif Adeen, EX94. Current prominent Holsteins & Jerseys that he has owned and is developing families from are:
•MD Delight Durham Atlee, EX92. Atlee is the Dam of; Atwood, Aftershock, Ariel & Shottle Aubrey to name a few
•Starmark Ad Hotstuff-Red-ET, EX94 Reserve Grand, 2012 International Red & White Show. She is the dam of the young sire Mr Hotstuffs Hypnotic-ET-RC at St Jacobs ABC

On top of this Michael has owned and sold many All Canadian and All American Nominations over the years. Currently Heath owns approximately 75 head of Holsteins and 60 head of Jerseys.

Heath has judged Shows Internationally in Switzerland, Ireland, Australia, Holland, Mexico, Brazil and Canada, Argentina, & the UK. Major Shows he has officiated at include; the 2015 Royal Winter Fair (Holsteins); 2015 International Jersey Show; 2012 International Holstein Show; 2011 Quebec International Fall Holstein Show; 2013 Swiss Expo (Holsteins); 2013 IDW Jersey Show; 2013 Eastern National Holstein Show; 2013 International Red & White Show; 2009 International Jersey Show; 2005 Royal Winter Fair (Jerseys); 2014 All American Jersey Show and the 2015 Sydney Royal Jersey Show.

National Ayrshire Show – Mr Warren Ferguson – New Zealand

warren-ferguson-2Warren is from the Waikato/King Country area in New Zealand. The dairy farm is 2nd generation and owned by Warren and Michelle, who have three sons. Josh is the eldest and is marrying Danica in March 2017, Corey is their 2nd son, and he works on the home Dairy farm and Ashley is an engineer. Warren and Michelle also have four grand children, Toia, Cody, Maddison and Aylah.

Ferdon was founded in 1945 by Warren’s father Don with Jersey cows. The stud now hosts all three breeds, Jersey, Holstein and Ayrshire. All three breeds have been shown with success over the years. At the 2016 Waikato Show Ferdon won every all breeds in-milk class (except for the age cow) and also winning All Breeds’ Intermediate and Senior Champion and Reserve Champion Cows.  In the All Breeds’ Best Udder, Ferdon took the 1st 4 placings.  Ferdon Comerica Viyella has been a great matriarch of the Jersey breed being the only cow to win Supreme Champion 3 times at New Zealand Dairy Event. At the home farm the Ferguson’s milk off 135 hectares and production is pasture based with grass silage and PKE for supplementary feed.

Warren’s judging has taken him all over New Zealand and Australia with major appointments being the NZ Holstein Friesian Semex on Farm Final in 2016 and IDW Jersey Judge in 2012.

National Guernsey Show – Ms Carla Stetzer – USA

 Carla StetzerCarla has been working in the AI industry for 15 years.  As an Area Sales Manager with Accelerated Genetics, she has worked with dairy genetics, linear evaluation, reproduction protocols, and helped provide numerous sales tools.

Carla has judged numerous district and state shows in the United States of America.   She was also a successful coach for the Jackson county dairy judging team.  Carla has judged the Guernsey Show at the Wisconsin State Fair and was the 5th highest individual in the Guernsey breed at the National Collegiate Judging Contest.

National Brown Swiss Show – Mr Nathan Thomas – USA

nathan-thomas-headshotNathan Thomas hails from North Lewisburg, Ohio. He owns and operates Triple-T Holsteins and Jerseys along with his family. Nathan with wife Jenny along with children Colton, Kendall and Camryn have been part of the family operation since its establishment in 2006. The operation consists of a 35 head Holstein and Jersey milking herd along with over 100 head of heifers and dry cows. In addition, the farm makes over 200 acres of hay yearly which is used on the farm and marketed in the area.

Triple-T Holsteins has garnered over 90 All-American and All-Canadian nominations in the last 11 years and many high scoring individuals have called the farm their home. Homebred highlights include T-Triple-T Gold Prize EX94 who was named Jr Champion at the 2009 World Dairy Expo and Royal Winter Fair and 2012 All-American Four-Year-Old and Nom All-American Five-Year-Old in 2013. In addition, her dam T-Triple-T Dundee Paige 3E-EX96 was Nominated All-American twice and has developed into a prolific brood cow. Paige and her daughters have been nominated All-American Best Three Females and offspring have been Nominated All-American Produce of Dam. Other notable individuals include Starmark Ad Hotstuff-Red-ET EX94 the 2012 Reserve Grand Champion of the Grand International Red & White Show, Extreme Electra EX95 who has garnered many accolades on both sides of the border including 2013 HM Grand Champion at Central National Jersey Show and Reserve Grand at the 2008 Royal Winter Fair Jersey Show, lastly Ms Exels Dundee Beauty 3E-EX95 has earned All-American and Reserve All-Canadian honors as an Aged Cow in 2011.

Nathan most recently judged the Grand International Red & White Show in Madison, Wisconsin, the National Holstein Show in Brazil and the National Show in Quettero, Mexico. In 2015, Nathan judged the International Holstein Show at World Dairy Expo. He also judged the Central National Jersey show in Madison, WI in 2014. Other highlights include recently serving as official judge for the 2015 Canadian National Holstein Convention Show in New Brunswick, Canada and the 2015 Royal Winter Fair Jersey Show.

National Jersey Show – Mr Chris Lahmers – USA

chris-lahmersChris Lahmers has been the Dairy Programs Specialist for COBA-Select Sires for 15 years. He, along with his family, own Brown Velvet Brown Swiss and Lah-Dale Holsteins, consisting of 20 and 15-head respectively. Brown Velvet has bred five All-American Brown Swiss and owned the 2005 Brown Swiss Intermediate Champion at World Dairy Expo. Chris has served as an official judge across North America. Highlights include officiating the 2014 TB Canadian 4-H Dairy Classic at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, the 2013 All-American Jersey Show, the 2012 International Junior Holstein Show, 2011 International Brown Swiss Show and 2011 National Jersey Jug Futurity. Chris Lahmers, his wife Elizabeth, and children Elaina, Ava and Audrey live in Marysville, Ohio.

National Holstein Show – Mr Paul Trapp – USA

paul-trappWith over 20 years of industry experience, Paul Trapp is currently a Product Acquisition Specialist for Semex. He graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture Economics with a Marketing emphasis. Paul, along with his wife, Sarah, and sons, Kole and Beau own an elite group of Registered Brown Swiss, Jerseys, and Holsteins, where they have received All-American nominations across all three breeds. He is also a partner in Pit-Crew Genetics, which has received 21 Brown Swiss All-American Nominations since 2007, including the 2015 All-American Summer Yearling.

Paul has judged shows in 20 different states at the local, state, and national levels, and internationally in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Columbia, Ireland, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Japan and the United Kingdom. Paul has judged at World Dairy Expo, serving as the 2010 International Guernsey Show associate judge, 2011 International Milking Shorthorn Show lead judge, 2013 International Ayrshire Show lead judge, 2014 International Holstein Show lead judge and the 2015 International Brown Swiss Show lead judge. He has served on All-American panels and has judged national shows for all seven dairy breeds. Paul has also served for five years on the World Dairy Expo Dairy Cattle Exhibitor Committee, has served 12 years as an official for the WDE Intercollegiate Dairy Judging Contest, and was a member of the Young Dairy Leaders Institute inaugural class.
