Team from Wayne, Ontario Counties wins national Dairy Bowl

A team of young minds from Wayne and Ontario Counties have been named national champions at the Holstein Association USA Convention.

The Wayne-Ontario County Holstein Club team represented New York at the National Holstein Foundation Dairy Bowl in late June. The contest puts young people between the ages of 9 and 21 on teams against one another to test their knowledge of feeds and feeding, milk quality, herd health, udder health, breeding and genetics, marketing, dairy foods, calf raising and the Holstein breed.

The team earned their place at the national competition by winning the state competition in January. The team then traveled to Wisconsin in June and competed in four rounds in the Junior division. No team from New York had won at the national level since 1991.

Team members Gabriella Taylor, George Andrew, and Kailey and Alysha Kuhn, and coaches Rob Kuhn and Jonathan Taylor comprised the winning team.

Holstein Association USA is a non-profit membership organization with more than 8,300 youth members with strong interest in raising, breeding and milking Holstein cattle.
