Saputo to acquire Montchevre & Murray Goulburn

A Canadian dairy business has announced two dairy business acquisitions in less than a week.

Montreal-based Saputo announced last week they will buy Belmont, Wisconsin-based Betin, Inc., which does business as Montchevre. The goat cheese manufacturer employees 319 people, and will be added to Saputo’s American cheese division which has more than a dozen brands of Italian, Cheddar, and specialty cheeses. The purchase price was not announced.

The transaction is subject to regulatory approval and is expected to close by the end of 2017.

On October 26th, Saputo announced they will buy Australian-based Murray Goulburn Co-Operative Co. for one-point-31 billion dollars. Murray Goulburn makes a full range of dairy foods, including drinking milk, milk powder, cheese, butter and dairy beverages, infant formula, and ingredients. That deal is expected to close by the end of the year pending approval by MG shareholders.
