
Interbreed Champion: Ballyginniff Goldwyn Cindy 2 from the Patterson family
Taking the overall interbreed championship here today at the Royal Ulster Winter Fair was the Holstein champion Ballyginnif Goldwyn Cindy from John, Andrew and James Patterson. Sired by Goldwyn she is out of the Ex91 scored Ballyginniff Jordan Cindy, in her third lactation having calved two months ago she is giving 50kg a day. This made an early 21stbirthday present and well worth journey home from America for Andrew who has been working at Butlerview Holsteins and is only home for three weeks. She has only been shown a few times before and won her class at Ballymena show as a milking heifer.
Standing reserve interbreed was the Dairy Shorthorn champion Marleycote Princess Jill 31 from Iain, John and Matthew McLean. Purchased in March after she won champion at the UK Dairy Expo this second calved Marleycote Rampage daughter was originally bred by Richard Baynes. Classified VG88 as a heifer and winning the Shorthorn championship at Balmoral she calved her second one month ago and is giving 50kg per day.
Reserve in the Holstein championship was Bordermist Sanchez Fran from the Jones, Boyd, O’Neill and McGinley partnership. This second calved Sanchez daughter is out of Glaslough Gibson Fran and is five months calved and giving 45kg a day. She has already stood first three year old and reserve exhibitor bred at Millstreet.
In the Dairy Shorthorn championship the reserve went to the second prize Beechview Arudolf Cecilia 2 from George Booth. She calved early October and is giving 41kg a day, as a heifer she gave 7723kg at 4.71%bf and 3.4%p. Sired by Kamps-Hollow Arudolf she stood first here last year as a heifer.
Leading the way in the Jersey championship was Ashley Fleming’s second calved Potterswalls Action Daisybelle. She is a Forest Glen Avery Action daughter out of Potterswalls Jamaica Daisybelle. As a heifer she gave over 7000kg and is two months fresh, she stood third here last year.
Standing reserve to her was Richard Jones leading Clandeboye Estates’ fifth calved cow Clandeboye Jazz Evita. Classified Ex94, she calved at the end of October and is giving 30kg a day. This is her fourth consecutive year at this show and she was reserve interbreed champion here in 2011, last year her daughter was interbreed champion here.
John and Michael Hunter took the honours in the Ayrshire championship with Haresfoot Bazooka Ella. This third calved daughter of Haresfoot Bazooka was purchased at the Haresfoot dispersal from breeder Duncan Hunter for 7200gns. She is six weeks fresh and giving 40kgs, last year she stood champion at Antrim Show.
Taking the reserve spot was Marleycote Sea Lily 14 from Sidney Cromie and Iain, John and Matthew McLean. Purchased alongside the Shorthorn champion back in March when she was fresh calved she is giving 38kg a day and is projected to give 11,500kg. This summer she has notched up five Ayrshire championships and was All Ireland In-Milk champion.
