NorthStar Co-op Names Top Wisconsin DHI Dairy Herds

NorthStar Cooperative has recognized its top Wisconsin customers that participated in its Dairy Herd Improvement program during the past year.

Heiman’s Holsteins of Marshfield earned the 2016 NorthStar Cooperative DHI Services Progressive Dairy Producer of the Year award, which is presented to the herd with the greatest dollar value increase over the past five years. The 482-cow dairy increased Dollar Value by $976 over the last five years. The farm’s Rolling Herd Average was 29,158 pounds of milk, 1,018 pounds of fat, and 881 pounds of protein.

The High Dollar Value Ayrshire Herd Average report was led by Tim Busch of Cecil, with a RHA of 19,458 pounds of milk, 722 pounds of fat, 611 pounds of protein and a dollar value of $3,015. Bill Seller, Fond du Lac, had the top ranking High Dollar Value Red and White Herd Average with a RHA of 26,392 pounds of milk, 893 pounds of fat, 789 pounds of protein, and a Dollar Value of $3,801. And Floyd & Calvin Brandt of Bryant led the High Dollar Value Mixed Breeds Herd Average with a RHA of 30,609 pounds of milk, 1,260 pounds of fat, 949 pounds of protein and a Dollar Value of $5,034 on three-times-a-day milking.

Kinnard Farms, Inc., Casco, owned the top animal on the Holstein Lifetime Cows for Milk Production report. An eighth lactation Windbreaker daughter, she earned this spot with lifetime credentials to date of 408,022 pounds of milk, 11,928 pounds of fat and 10,663 pounds of protein. Tim Busch of Cecil earned the top ranking on the Ayrshire Lifetime Cows for Milk Production report with a ninth lactation Tuxedo daughter with 220,721 pounds of milk, 7,769 pounds of fat and 6,884 pounds of protein to date. And Grass Ridge Farm, LLC of Pittsville led the Jersey Lifetime Cows for Milk Production report with an eighth lactation GORDO daughter with 252,952 pounds of milk, 10,492 pounds of fat and 8,189 pounds of protein.

Over 1,340 Wisconsin dairy operations with 455,000 cows were evaluated in ranking herds and cows for Milk Production, Dollar Value, and Somatic Cell Count in the NorthStar Cooperative Dairy Herd Information (DHI) Services Annual Performance Summary.
