In Class III trade at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, milk futures were mostly lower with the more active months resuming the recent trend. September was down $.02 at $16.39, October was $.13 lower at $15.14, November was down $.15 at $15.52, and December was $.08 lower at $15.43.
Cash cheese blocks were down $.005 at $1.5325. There were six loads sold, including three at $1.5375, two at $1.535, and one at $1.5325. The last unfilled bid was on one load at $1.53. Barrels were $.005 lower at $1.475. There were 11 loads sold, nine at $1.45, one at $1.46 and one at $1.475.
Butter was down $.005 at $1.915. There were six loads sold, ranging from $1.91 to $1.935.
Nonfat dry milk was $.0075 at $.945. There were two loads sold at that price. The last unfilled bid was on one load at $.94. The last uncovered offer was for one load at $.9475.
The USDA says the dairy prices received index during August 2016 was 85.1%, up 6.2% from July 2016 and 2.4% higher than August 2015. The all milk price was reported at $17.00 per hundredweight, up $1.00 on the month and $.40 on the year. For all ag prices received, the index was unchanged from a month ago and down 12% from a year ago. The prices paid index was 0.8% lower with lower prices for concentrates, nitrogen, feed grains, and complete feeds.
