Livestock killed in Mercer County (Pennsylvania ) barn fire

A Mercer County farm lost between ten and fifteen cattle that were trapped in a burning barn.

Sheakleyville Fire Chief Timothy Bucks tells 21 news that firefighters were able to save most of the 53 cows in the barn at 36 Condit Road in New Vernon Township.

The chief says that none of the firefighters or other people were injured.

Ten departments responded to the three alarm fire that was issued just  before 1 a.m. Friday.

Investigators summoned the Mercer County Animal Response Team (CART) to the scene.

CART volunteers respond to fires, accidents, natural disasters, and any emergencies involving wild, companion animals or livestock.

The state fire marshal is looking for the cause of the fire.
