Green Bay-based dairy co-op names new president

A Green Bay-based dairy cooperative has named a new president following the death of their former leader in an airplane crash.

Edge Dairy Farmer Cooperative board elected Brody Stapel as president during a meeting March 7.

Stapel, who previously served as VP of the co-op, farms at Double Dutch Dairy in Cedar Grove.

Former president John Pagel was killed Feb. 22 in a plane crash in Indiana. Pagel owned Pagel’s Ponderosa Dairy in Kewaunee County and The Cannery in Green Bay.

“The energy and excitement that John (Pagel) impressed upon those both inside and outside of the dairy community were contagious, and I am honored to have this opportunity to carry on that vision with the support of our incredible board,” Stapel said.

The board elected Tood Doornick of Baldwin as Vice President.

Edge lobbies lawmakers in Washington, D.C. on issues important to farmers. It is based in Green Bay and has members in eight other Midwest states.
