A dairy barn was destroyed by fire Sunday afternoon in Merville.

The call came in shortly before 4 pm. Smoke from the fire at the Evansdale dairy farm on Headquarters Road could be seen for miles.
Courtenay Fire Department responded and immediately called in the Oyster River department’s water tanker under their mutual aid agreement. There are no hydrants in the rural area.
A number of livestock were lost in the fire, but the exact number isn’t known.
The ruins were still smoking on Monday morning. The farm owners weren’t talking to the press.
Courtenay Fire Department is investigating the blaze, which had initially been called in as a hay bale on fire.
