4 weeks ago today lives of the Burdette and Stiles families changed forever. It all started with a 2:22am phone call thinking at first someone was sick and I just needed to milk. How very wrong was those first thoughts. But 4 weeks later, Patricia and Reese have proven to the world they are the strongest of fighters. Some days have been tougher for Reese than Patricia and other days. Patricia struggled more, but all-in-all, they are both still fighting. Today, Reese had another good day. She was able to rest and gain strength and her right lung appeared a tad bit stronger with some tests. She will not head to the OR tomorrow as we were told earlier, instead, she will continue to strengthen her lungs. Patricia had a great day…for the first time in 4 weeks. She told the family all day she was hot and thirsty! Yep, Patricia is back because she is always those 2 things! Patricia mouthed to her daughter Laura that “I would have given her (as she pointed to her nurse) $100 for a glass of water today”!
After 4 weeks, the entire family wishes to let everyone know how lucky they are to live in an area of the country where we have access to the best specialist and doctors in the world! Reese has the best care she could possibly want at Johns Hopkins just as Patricia has the best we could ask for with an adult burn victim at MedStar Washington Medical Center. These nurses, doctors and staff have become their friends over the last month and are so important to them now. They are so skilled and brilliant but at the same time are so comforting to them. They thank them all for the comfort they give Patricia and Reese… and feel so lucky to have made these news friends. They thank each and every one of you for the continued prayers, calls, texts, cards and well wishes…even after a month, these still pour in. Please keep them all coming because they draw comfort from them all and feel like so many friends and family members have carried them through. They know Reese and Patricia can feel the love…and they draw strength from you all as well. Keep praying!
