Tragedy as Cattle Semi Loaded with Team BC’s WCC Calves Collides in Western Canada

Tragedy struck Sunday morning, August 28th  on the Trans-Canada Highway when two semis hit head on. One of the semis was a pot load of show cattle, the Team BC Cattle, on their way  home from the Western Canadian Classic. An end to what had bean a great week where youth from across the Western Canadian provinces gathered to show their cattle has ended in a tragedy.

The two cattle liner drivers, Tanner Liefting, 25, and Brandon Richard Johnson, 30, both from Chilliwack, BC after a horrific wreck on the Trans Canada Highway near Field, BC ,have most lost their lives as they were delivering Team BC’s WCC calves back from Brandon, MB when tragedy struck after a head on collision. The occupant in the other semi has also sadly been declared deceased.

Witness Kim Redlich said the collision occurred between the two semi-truck trailers and he saw the blaze shortly after 6:15 am. “The cabs were destroyed and both were engulfed in flames,” he said.

A witness reported that both drivers died and couldn’t get the cattle out.

Our sincerest condolences to the families.

Kyle Stockdale of KyVision Sharpening & Clipper Repair is organizing a show equipment drive to help replace the show equipment that Team BC lost. Let’s do what the dairy industry does best and help out our fellow industry friends!

From KyVision Sharpening & Clipper Repair:

Words cannot describe the tragedy that struck and took the lives of two truckers and a great number of the WCC team’s show animals heading home after the competition early yesterday morning.

With that being said, I have a call to action for anyone that is able to help. Those competitors who lost their show heifers also lost ten full bags of fitting equipment on that truck. We cannot replace the animals lost but we can replace their show equipment.

Anyone with equipment that they are willing to sell or donate, please reach out to me. Blades, blowers, clippers, etc.. I would greatly appreciate anyone who is also willing to help!

Let’s unite as an industry!
