British Friesian Type proofs see minimal changes

The British Friesian Top 10 Type rankings for April see very few changes, although the leading two sires swap places as both add more daughters. Leading the charge is Blackisle Maverick (Marshside Rocket 3 x Blackisle Glen Albyn) with 33 classified daughters in 17 herds giving his Type Merit of 3.23, up from 3.00 in December with Reliability of 76%. He changes places with herd mate Blackisle Benloyal (Marshside Rocket 3 x Gornal Pegasus), who increases his Type Merit to 3.11 from 3.00 with 70 daughters in 24 herds.

Taking third spot is Raheenarran BGC Sochar, the Glen Albyn x Hylke cross who is another to increase his Type Merit, from 2.1 in December to 2.26 with 68% Reliability. All three of the top sires hail from the Genus stud which has done so much to keep an active supply of new British Friesian sires available to UK breeders.

Making the fourth spot his own is Petteril Magnet, the Avoncroft-supplied veteran with 280 classified daughters and a Type Merit of 1.91 with 95% Reliability. He keeps Deangate Quentin (Hylke x Desert Orchid) in fifth position despite the latter’s modest increase in Type Merit to 1.86 with 77% Reliability.

Kirkby Jayson (Marshside Rocket 3 x Sharcombe Beta) from Bullsemen.com retains his sixth position (TM1.83, 71% Reliability) whilst there’s a newcomer at seven; Blackisle Cardow. He’s a Parbury Venue son from Blackisle Mist 25 BFE92-3E by Glen Albyn. His is an early proof with 13 daughters classified in four herds but his Type Merit of 1.73, with 1.72 for Mammary and 0.99 for Legs & Feet, looks promising. Cardow is available from Dorset Cattle Breeders, who also share marketing rights to the eighth-ranked sire, Lakemead Randolf, with GB Bulls. Randolf (Marshside Rocket 3 x Foxhole Panatella) has a Type Merit of 1.61 with 70% Reliability.

Completing the Top 10 are Langley Evolution and Culverness Wallace. Evolution, another product of the Genus programme, is a Hylke x Pegasus cross and boasts a Type Merit of 1.61 from 46 daughters in 16 herds (69% Reliability). Wallace is another sire available from GB Bulls and his Type Merit of 1.38 is a significant improvement on his December figure of 1.05 thanks to the addition of extra daughter information pushing his Reliability from 68 to 72%.
