Boy crushed by cow hoof trimming machine at Empire Farm Days in critical condition

An 8-year-old boy was critically injured Thursday at the Empire Farm Days in a freak farm machinery accident.

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office said a vendor was demonstrating a cow hoof trimming machine when the machine was accidentally lowered onto the 8-year-old, who had gotten under the machine. The accident occurred at about 3 p.m.

Deputies responded to the farm show at Rodman Lott and Sons Farms on Route 414. State troopers, Seneca Falls police, North Seneca Ambulance and the Seneca Falls Fire Department also responded.

The boy was airlifted by Life Net Helicopter to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse. He suffered head injuries and is listed in critical condition.

The sheriff’s office said it is continuing to investigate the accident and that the child’s name is not being released.

The Empire Farm Days — the largest agricultural trade show in the northeast — draws more than 65,000 people each year. Thursday was the shows last day.
