Last year, a lack of snow prevented Scoville from building it. Due to popular demand he brought it back this year, and this time with a little help from friends and neighbors. In the end, it took a total of 30 people, two tractors, and a hay elevator to construct the Giant Snowman. At 36 feet tall, the snowman can be easily seen driving down Route 126. “It’s very impressive, the amount of people who come out to see it. Each year it gets bigger and bigger,” says Jeff Berrus, one of the friends who helped create the snowman.
Scoville’s first snowman was named B.A. Snowman and stood at 35-feet
It’s become such a popular town relic that Scoville is using it as an opportunity to give back to the community. Visitors who take a picture with the Giant Snowman are also encouraged to donate canned goods in the snowman’s lowest button, which will go to food pantries in Lewis and Jefferson Counties.
As impressive as the 36-foot snowman is, its height doesn’t compare to the current record-holder, a 122-food snowman that was built in Maine four years ago.
Put Scoville’s Snowman on top of this 122-foot snowman, and it’d be as tall as the Statue of Liberty (without the base)
