American Milking Shorthorn Society hires Gudex as Executive Secretary

The AMSS Board of Directors are pleased to announce that Brenda J. (Damrow) Gudex, IOM has been named Executive Secretary for the American Milking Shorthorn Society. She will be responsible for the management for the AMSS National Office, as well as its various programs, promotion the Milking Shorthorn breed and membership relations.

Brenda most recently worked in the chamber of commerce world. She served as the Director of Agricultural Programs for the Fond du Lac, WI chamber for 13 years, promoting and educating on all aspects of agriculture through community events, local media and the Agriculture in the Classroom programming. Brenda worked with a department membership of over 300 agri-business members and volunteers as part of the Agri-Business Council.

She is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Madison with a degree in Life Science Communications. Brenda is also a graduate of the Institute of Organization Management, as part of the US Chamber of Commerce Foundation, gaining her IOM designation at the Winter Institute in 2015. She currently serves on the Winter Institute Board of Regents.

A lifelong breeder of Milking Shorthorns, Brenda is actively involved in her family’s farm, Easter Brook, Juneau, WI. She resides in Oakfield, WI with her three girls, Madison, MacKenzie and Macyn.

A note from Thomas Landrum, President of the AMSS Board of Directors:

Brenda brings the skillset, the background, and the enthusiasm needed for the position. Many of our breeders are acquainted with Brenda and thus she will adapt quickly. Officially, she will begin her employment April 22, 2019.

Unfortunately, we do not have an Executive Secretary training manual so Brenda will need to learn on-the-go. Several directors, along with Kathy, will assist in her learning curve. She and her family have been involved in several AMSS programs over the years and this will add to her familiarity and ability to become a quick study.

As a former instructor, I know full well the one thing you simply cannot teach is “want to.” Desire is a wonderful attribute. Brenda has “want to.” She is excited about doing well in her new position. We welcome her to the office and look forward to her success.
