Not all college majors may be created equal when it comes to earnings and unemployment. And for graduates with agricultural degrees, the outlook is bright.
According to a study by Georgetown University, the specific degree can truly pay off for some.
About 6 percent of recent graduates in agriculture and natural resources are unemployed, which is below the national average of 7.9 percent for recent college grads. Nursing grads have lowest unemployment rate, 4.8 percent. Architecture and information systems grads have the highest unemployment rates at 12.8 percent and 14.7 percent, respectively.
Again, the type of degree can make a difference.
Experienced graduates with degrees with general agriculture (2.8 percent unemployed) and plant science/agronomy (2.7 percent unemployed) fared better than animal sciences (4.1 percent unemployed) and natural resources/management (4.7 percent unemployed).
