Cogent celebrates its most well-balanced line-up of sires

Cogent is celebrating its strongest and broadest line-up of bulls, following the launch of new Holstein indexes to the dairy industry this week.

Not only does the company feature heavily in DairyCo’s official Profitable Lifetime Index (PLI) ranking with continued solid performance from some of its proven dairy sires, but it is also claiming the best portfolio of high type sires the industry has ever seen.
It is names such as Cogent Twist (now with second crop daughters and standing his ground as one of the world’s top 10 sires); Pirolo Goldwyn Wyman (the highest type transmitter in the top 20 PLI list); and Bakombre (with unmatched transmission of milk volume and percentage fat) which are strengthening the company’s position. These daughter-proven bulls all feature in the international top 20 PLI ranking and offer exceptionally complete packages of production, fitness and type.

Even more type is on offer from others in the line-up, with names such as Mincio (Type Merit 4.11 and PLI £139); Bookem (TM 3.16; PLI £214); Observer (TM 3.22; PLI £201) and Shamrock (TM 3.56; PLI £179) amongst the most well-rounded.
“Some of these high type bulls have earned us an unprecedented position in Holstein UK’s December Type Merit ranking where we are proud to have six of the top 10 UK and international sires and eight of the top 12,” says Michael Phillips from Cogent. “We have always worked hard to find the most well-balanced packages when it comes to genetics and we believe that the transmission of sound conformation alongside high PLI represents the most desirable blend.

“With names such as Ballycairn Tiergan and Oman End-Story showing great staying-power and gradually becoming household names we are confident others will follow suit and be here for the long haul,” he adds.
