Once again, the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society has sponsored a Nuffield Farming Scholar.
Announced earlier this month, 23 awards have been given to successful candidates working within the farming, food, horticulture or rural sectors.
During their 18 month long studies the scholars undertake a research project in their area of interest and receive a bursary to encourage them to travel for at least eight weeks, allowing them the opportunity to study practices used abroad and at home.
The 2015 Royal Welsh Scholar is Mr Aled Davies from Dryslwyn, near Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire, whose chosen research topic is ‘Alternatives to antibiotics in agriculture’.
The society is also delighted that Aled Jones, the Assistant Chief Executive at the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society was awarded the 2015 Young Nuffield (Bob Matson) Scholar with his research project of ‘The role of agricultural societies and shows in promoting, developing and innovating the agricultural industry’.
“Education and knowledge transfer is something the society is keen to encourage. One of our objectives has always been to advance science, research and education within the agriculture, horticulture, forestry and conservation industries in Wales” says John T Davies, the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society’s Chairman of the Board.
“Providing the bursary and opportunity for an individual to become a Nuffield Farming Scholar ensures that our rural industries continue to improve and benefit from their research and learning.”

All 23 scholars officially received their awards at the annual Nuffield Conference on 21 November and will begin their studies in the New Year.
