Hailey Upsets Maya & Layla to Win All-Canadian Mature Cow

RF Goldwyn Hailey
Hailey takes advantage in split World Dairy Expo and Royal Winter Fair Mature Cow results to win the 2013 All-Canadian Mature Cow Award.

In a year that saw mixed show results at both World Dairy Expo and The Royal, it’s no surprise that the All-Canadian results, also had a few surprises. The biggest being that RF Goldwyn Hailey ridding the success of last year and spring shows this year takes home the All-Canadian award over World Dairy Expo winner Bonaccueil Maya Goldwyn and Royal Winter Fair winner Calbrett Goldwyn Layla. Hailey also finished an extremely close 2nd in the 2013 Breeder’s Choice Awards (Read more: The 2013 Breeder’s Choice Awards – The Tanbark Trail Edition Results)

The closest race for All-Canadian came in the milking yearlings where  Royal Winter Fair winner Combhaven Sid Monica and World Dairy Expo Winner Extondale Sid Iams garnered an equal number of first place ballots, but divided themselves as the second and third place votes were tallied.

Thiersant Lili Starbuck-ET (Ex-94-5E-USA-3*), the Canadian bred “Starbuck” daughter who left her mark at Lylehaven in Vermont. (Read more:  LYLEHAVEN: Developing the Dream) Two of those great-granddaughters earned All-Canadian victories in the junior 2-year-old, Belfast Goldwyn Lasenza,  and senior calf classes, Comestar Larion Goldwyn, while the third, Calbrett Goldwyn Layla, was Reserve in the mature cows.

Mario Comtois and family of Gen-Com Holstein makes it four years in a row as the leading exhibitor of All-Canadians. Gen-Com showed seven nominated animals for all or part of the season in 2013, six of these in the milking classes, and won three All-Canadian and three Honourable Mention awards for their efforts.

Far out in front as the leading breeder of All-Canadians in 2013, and placing second for exhibitor, is the Jacobs family of Ferme Jacobs Inc., Cap-Sante, Que. Twelve animals carrying the Jacobs prefix were nominated in the contest and they earned two Reserve and five Honourable Mention prizes. In addition, the Breeder’s Herd entry from Ferme Jacobs was the unanimous choice for All-Canadian in that very special class.
