UK Dairy Day 2017: Telford to host one of the world’s largest farming events again

UK Dairy Day will be returning to Telford International Centre next week, one of the world’s biggest farming events which attracts thousands of people every year.

It was launched in 2014 as a new event for the dairy industry, after farmers said they wanted a one-day event at a time of year when plans and decisions are being made for the winter.

Now in its fourth year, the 2016 event attracted 7,740 visitors.

There were 171 cattle on-site and more than 300 dairy business exhibiting.

The event is organised by Holstein UK with support from representatives from CIS, NBDC, The International Centre, Stagecraft UK and other key businesses within the industry.

New zones to be introduced this year include the NBDC Dairy Breed Village, Making More from Milk Zone and the Calf Rearing Zone.

The NBDC Breed Village will be a dedicated area where breed societies can promote their clubs and membership.

Sponsored by the National Bovine Data Centre, there will be displays and representatives from Guernsey Cattle Society, Jersey, Shorthorn Society and Ayrshire.

The NBDC will also be showcasing dairy performance statistics and the type classification service.

In the Newport Suite, visitors can learn about farm diversification in the Making More from Milk Zone.

People can get advice on how to add value to dairy enterprises and milk production through initiatives like vending machines, making ice cream or yoghurts or creating a new supply chain.

The Calf Rearing Zone will be sponsored by Volac and will be located outside of the International Centre.

Tips on birthing, growth, health, hygiene, feeding and husbandry will form part of the practical zone.

The event also has dairy cattle classes, seminars and demonstrations.

The event will be held next Wednesday, September 13.
