GB Line-Up for the European Championships Announced!

The European Championships are organised by the European Holstein & Red Holstein Confederation every two years and 22 countries are invited to submit a team that is required to travel to a host country. This year sees the turn of Switzerland as host, following an outstanding event in Cremona, Italy, October 2010, and this promises to be a spectacular event if the Swiss Expo is anything to go by!

Heading the line-up is Lavenham Adeen EX-92-2E SP 3rd calver from Riverdane (owned with Holmland and Carldanton Holsteins), a Durham daughter who recently took the Holstein Championship at Agriscot. Joining her are stablemates Riverdane Woelkchen 8 EX-92-2E 3rd calver by Cento (owned with Ponderosa and I-Cow Holsteins) who has had successful outings at both Agriscot and the UK Dairy Expo, and a show debut for a recently acquired Bolton 2nd calver, Washfold Monica 117 VG-89 SP. Last year’s Agriscot Res SuperHeifer, Cheshire Show Champion and Great Yorkshire Res Champion Heifer Riverdane Talented Ashlyn VG-88-2yr (owned with Sterndale Holsteins) has calved again and looks awesome, and she completes the Riverdanestring along with the daughter of Royal Show Champion Hendomen Arlene EX93, Riverdane Gold Angel VG-87-2yr.

Wyndford Holsteins provide the only Red member of Team GB, the Reserve Champion Red & White at last year’s UK Dairy Expo Wyndford Roseman Rebecca Red 44 VG-86-2yr, now fresh with her second. Another exciting young second calver from Wilfred Maddocks Ltd just coming into her own is Wyndford Goldwyn Melody 11 VG-87-2yr. I-Cow Holsteins were so impressed at Agriscot with the Junior Heifer Wyndford Knowledge Torch 55, she was purchased before she entered the ring and won her class. She will travel with her old teammates to take part in this unique opportunity for British Holstein breeding.

Presiding over the Holstein classes will be David Boyd from Glaslough Holsteins in Ireland whilst the Red classes will take place under the watchful eye of Niels Erik Haahr of Anderstrup Holsteins, Denmark.

Team GB Managers Mark Nutsford, Ben Yates and Isaac Lancaster are very pleased with the program laid out for this ground-breaking event and are now inviting any companies interested in sponsoring Team GB to get in touch:
‘Our primary consideration is to expand the profile of British stock. The quality of our dairy cattle and our management systems are aspects in which we excel, and to this end, we will work very hard to maximise exposure of all supporting industry bodies. The aim is to do British breeding proud and prove to all international visitors that the UK is a country well worth visiting when considering future investments.’
