The 30* brood-cow, Val-Bisson Maya VG-88, has been crowned this year’s Canadian Cow of the Year. The impressive Goldwyn-daughter, who has 29 VG daughters (including 17 VG-2yr), is the grand-dam of the Nr.1 daughter-proven conformation sire in Canada – Doorman (+19).

Very tall and elegant, Maya has a temper that makes working with her very enjoyable. Holder of one Superior Lactation, she produced, at five years and nine months, 15,703 kg of milk at 3,6% of fat and 3,4% of protein (286-280-308).
It is through the success of her progeny that we explain the enthusiasm around Maya. Her 42 classified daughters, from a dozen different sires, have produced an average, in equivalent mature, of 14,609 kg of milk at 4,1% of fat and 3,3% of protein and her son Val-Bisson Morning is now Superior Type.
Several of Maya’s daughters have attracted interest for artificial insemination: Val-Bisson Shottle Imelda, VG-89, has six sons in insemination centers, including the renowned Doorman, in addition to finishing in fourth place of the 4-year-old class at Holstein Quebec Spring Show in 2014. Val-Bisson Contrast Illarante, VG-89 US, which was exhibited in Madison, is the best known of a group of five full sisters, VG at 2 years, and Val Bisson Windbrook Icecream, VG-87 at 2 years old, has a rating of 16 in conformation, making it among the 25 best of the breed.
Within her progeny, many have also had success in the show ring, including Val-Bisson Meridian Doriane VG-88, third Milking Yearling at the Royal and Honorable Mention All-Canadian in 2014, which has also circled the world on Semex’s advertisements.
