The USDA and the US Trade Representative’s Office say there has been continued progress on the implementation of the phase one trade agreement with China.
In a statement, the USDA and USTR listed recent successes, including China’s agreement to lift import bans on blueberries and barley.
In recent weeks, China has updated its lists of U.S. facilities eligible to export beef, pork, poultry, seafood, and dairy. China also published a new domestic standard for dairy permeate powder for human consumption that will allow imports of the product from the US.
Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue says the U.S. looks forward to “continued cooperative work” with China on phase one implementation, and immediate increases in US exports of ag products.
US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer says China has worked with the U.S. to implement measures to provide greater access for U.S. producers. He says he fully expects the agreement to be a success.
Bloomberg recently reported that China reiterated its pledge to work with the US and implement the first phase of the trade deal.
But, White House Economic Advisor Larry Kudlow on Thursday told the Washington Post that although the phase one trade deal is intact, China must be held accountable for its handling of the coronavirus.
