UK’s First Ever Embryo Tag Sale

It has been announced today that one of the key highlights of next week’s Borderway UK Dairy Expo will be the first ever UK EmbryoTag sale.  Buyers will be able to choose from 40 lots, all sold according to sale price. This innovative sale is just one of the reasons that in only its second year, Carlisle’s Borderway UK Dairy Expo is already taking its rightful place on the dairy industry world stage. Among the thousands expected to visit will be groups from Finland, several coaches from Ireland and trade stands from as far away as Canada.
Lots will be available for viewing at www.harrisonandhetherington.co.uk  The sale itself begins on Thursday 7th March at 9.00am and closes at 5pm on Saturday March 9th. Prices will be published on the website and also on the Harrison and Hetherington stand – sales will be on a first come, first served basis and the price advertised is the price paid.
Lots for the Embryo Tag Sale have consignments from breeders in the UK, Ireland, Europe and Canada, including entries from Sterndale, Ridgefield, Hays Genetics,  Absolute Genetics,  Drointon, Nosbisch Holsteins Germany and Butlerview Farms in the USA.
The latest addition in the form of the Embryo Tag Sale is the initiative of auctioneer Glyn Lucas who explains his reasons for launching the sale. “Tag sales have been a huge success in the US and Canada and we know that there is a demand for embryos in the UK so we wanted to introduce a more innovative and financially viable way of making them available. We have a total of 40 lots in a wide price range and we are delighted to be able to offer this service in the UK for the first time.”
UK Dairy Expo was launched last year by leading livestock auctioneers, Harrison and Hetherington, in response to a need for a spring showcase for the UK dairy industry and the response from the industry at all levels has been very positive says Glyn  “Last year was a big year and we are very pleased with the continued support from businesses, breeders and sponsors. The show is now without a doubt the best livestock dairy show in the UK, and is continuing to grow. This year we have over 300 entries and some of the finest genetics from seven  breeds with representation from all levels and all ages.
Taking place on Friday 8th and Saturday 9th March at Carlisle’s Borderway Exhibition Centre, farmers, breeders and judges will be coming from around to world to view the cattle entries, the International Dairy Youth Championships, the Classic Global Sale and 150 trade stands and exhibits.
In addition to the Embryo Tag Sale highlights of the event will include:
  • Livestock Seven breeds of cattle – Holstein, Jersey, Ayrshire, Red & White, Brown Swiss, Dairy Shorthorn and British Friesian will take to the show ring to compete for their share of the £15,000 prize money.
