Shirley Kaltenbach Retires, Leslie Maurice Appointed as New Director of Communications

After nearly 34 years of service, Shirley Kaltenbach announces her retirement as Select Sires’ director of communications. Kaltenbach has served in this role since 2012, having previously worked in multiple departments, including business and finance and veterinary health. She was also instrumental as past assistant to the president and CEO and serving as assistant to the chairman and board of directors.

“Kaltenbach used her combination of tremendous talent in writing, creative flair and an uncompromising commitment to excellence to improve communications and build a skilled and award-winning team,” says David Thorbahn, president and CEO of Select Sires.

As a champion for Select Sires’ brand image, Kaltenbach’s inspiring leadership has generated a comprehensive set of branding guidelines used in the federation of cooperatives, engaging communications pieces and booth displays to enhance messaging. She is also recognized for developing Select Sires’ brand promise, “Your Success Our Passion.”

Select Sires is excited to name Leslie Maurice the incoming director of communications. Maurice was raised on a registered Holstein farm, graduated from The Ohio State University and most recently completed Northwestern University’s Executive Scholars program in marketing communications and sales.

She started her career at Select Sires as an intern in 2003 and was hired full time in 2005. She has since worked in the marketing and communications departments in various capacities and, more recently, as a communications specialist. With her strong creative vision and graphic design skills, Maurice is responsible for the recognizable branding of the Showcase SelectionsTM program and Holstein sire advertising. She has won awards for her work in design, photography and video production coordination from the Cooperative Communicators Association.

Maurice resides in Champaign county, Ohio with her husband and children on their 145-cow Jersey dairy, 5J Farms LLC. In support of her local community, she volunteers on the school district’s levy committee and as a judging coach for 4-H and FFA dairy teams.

“It has been a blessing to work with a talented team of individuals who are on fire for the dairy industry and it has been an honor to lead them in serving our customer-owners. We all want to be led by people who are driven by a mission. Leslie’s industry knowledge, experience and intense passion combined with the support of her teammates will undoubtedly yield future success for Select Sires!” says Kaltenbach.
