Several records set at World Dairy Expo ’17

World Dairy Expo officials say 2017 was a year full of records.  Kristin Olson tells Brownfield the nearly 70-thousand in attendance was down a bit from last year’s 50th-anniversary show, but the number of cattle exhibited was very high.  “2,348 head of the finest dairy cattle in the world anchor down in Madison and so it was a strong show once again on the colored shavings with the naming of our Supreme Champion on Saturday evening.”

Two Wisconsin cows took top honors.  The Supreme Champion is a 6-year-old Holstein named Rosiers Blexy Goldwyn-ET from Lomira, Wisconsin and the Reserve Supreme Champion is last year’s Supreme Champion, Musqie Iatola Martha-ET from Kaukauna, Wisconsin.

And, Olson says they’ve never had more trade show vendors.  “884 participating companies and they offered a chance for attendees to really work their way around the world and see the latest technology and advancements available with 28 countries, seven Canadian provinces, and 42 U.S. states represented.”

Olson says a record number of youths competed in the fitting contest, and 225 4-H members from 24 states and one Canadian province showed cattle last Monday.  The youth showmanship contest Thursday included 424 participants from around the world.

Planning is already underway for World Dairy Expo October 2nd through the 6th, 2018
