The 2015 edition of the Sale of Stares, one of North America’s top sales every year, averaged an outstanding $19,719 (unofficial) on 78 head. Held on Thursday evening, November 12th at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto, Ont a big crowd turned out for the 63rd edition of this sale which was being managed by Brian Craswell Auctions Ltd. and Blondin International Int’l Inc.

Topping the sale at $170,000 was Alexerin Monterey 1504, a January 2015 View-Home Monterey-ET sired heifer calf with a +2737 GTPI and +3269 GPA LPI who was ready to flush. The first member of her family to sell, she is from a Good Plus-82-2y “Supersire” dam with a +2940 GLPI and a projection of 12,589 kg milk, 3.9% fat, 3.0% protein (324-337-309) in her first lactation. The second dam is a Very Good-88 “O Man” with 20,994 kg milk, 4.3% fat, 3.3% protein (374-436-381) at 4 years. This valuable calf was purchased by Comfort Holsteins, Cardinal, Ont., Glenhaven Holsteins, Williamstown, Ont., and Thurler Farms Inc., South Mountain, Ont., with her consignor, Alexerin Farms, Manotick, Ont., also retaining an interest.

Second high seller of the day at $157,000 sold to Don Barry of the United States was Clelor S Bombshell, a September 2015 Seagull-Bay Silver-ET heifer calf with a +2793 GTPI and +3356 GPA LPI who sold in absentia. Consigned by Brian Weber and Maple Lawn Farm, both of Allenford, Ont., she is a member of the noted Quietcove Star Fanta-ET (VG-88-15*) family. Her 2-year-old “Supersire” dam has a +3086 GPA LPI and her grandam is a Very Good-87 “Man-O-Man” with 16,783 kg milk, 3.7% fat. 3.1% protein (310-304-301), followed by nine more generations of Very Good or Excellent.

Round out the top sellers was Oconnors Command Lonestar, a November 2014 Larcrest Commander-ET calf from the Comestar Laurie Sheik ET (VG-88-23*) family, sold for $69,000 to Glenhaven Holsteins and Greaveston, Williamstown, Ont. Selling in absentia, this calf has a +2631 GTPI and +3351 GPA LPI and had been consigned by Vogue Cattle Co., Brighton, Ont. She is from a Very Good-87-2y “Numero Uno” dam who completes ten generations of Very Good or Excellent and is projected to 204-249-202% in her first lactation.
