Richard Hyde Obituary

Richard “Dick” D. Hyde peacefully passed away after his short battle with lung cancer on November 16th 2014. He was born on October 9th 1946, in Ionia, Michigan, to Douglas and Cora Mae Hyde. Dick graduated from Morley Stanwood High School in 1964. After graduation he attended Michigan State University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Dairy Science. In 1969, Dick was drafted into the United State Marines Corp. and served in the Artillery division during the Vietnam War. In 1975 Dick married his lovely bride Patricia (Robb). Together they had 3 redheaded children Shaun (Betty), Michelle (Jim) and Katie (Jeff). Dick was blessed with 6 grandchildren, Avery & Claire, Hayley & JR, and Eli & Caleigh. Dick is also survived by his parents, Douglas and Cora Mae Hyde, sister Carolyn (Richard) Garbow, niece, Karen (Charlie) Oulette, nephew, Kevin (Deanna) Garbow and 3 great nieces and nephews. Dick learned his love of agriculture from his father and has passed this love onto his son and daughters. He and his son run the families register Holstein dairy farm, Moram Holsteins. Dick was passionate about all things agriculture including helping a neighbor when they were in need. This passion drove him to be involved in many agriculture related activities, such as: Michigan Farm Bureau, 4-H Leader for the Winfield Hustlers, Michigan Maple Sugar Association, member of Michigan Milk Producer Association, and former President of the Michigan Holstein Association. Dick and Patty enjoyed traveling to National Holstein Convention and meeting dairy farmers across the country. His commitment to helping others drove him to serve on the Amble Volunteer Fire Department for more than 30 years. Celebration of Richards’s life will be on Thursday, November 20th 2014 from 2 – 4pm and 6-9pm at Heckman Funeral Home in Howard City Michigan. Memorial Services will be on Friday, November 21st 2014 at Christ the King Church in Howard City Michigan, gathering at 10 am with the Memorial Service beginning at 11 am. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Michigan Dairy Memorial and Scholarship Foundation or to a charity of the families choosing.
