Obama Calls on Farmers to Help TPP Get Through Congress

President Obama says he wants farmers to help convince Congress to ratify the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

“If the agricultural community is strong and pushing on this issue, that will be an enormous base from which we can get this thing passed,” the President told Brownfield Ag News on Tuesday.

During the interview, President Obama said what’s great about agriculture is that it’s in every state and it’s bi-partisan.  He wants farmers to check out the TPP agreement for themselves and then to help see that it’s ratified.

“Make sure we’re not selling you a bill of goods here,” said President Obama, addressing farmers, “but once you determine, I think, and once you see that this is good for America and good for your farming community, make sure that you push Congress hard.”

“This is a generational deal that you don’t want to pass up,” he said.
