Nestlé Mexico investing over $53 million to boost milk production

Over 700 million pesos ($53 million) will be invested into the Mexican dairy industry by Nestlé Mexico in an effort to boost milk production within the country. Nestlé Mexico collects milk from 4,000 farmers, according to a release on the company’s website.

Of the $53 million, just over $22 million will be invested into technical assistance in the dairy supply chain, while nearly $30 million will be put towards growing production and infrastructure.

Nestlé Mexico has been present since 1935, and is currently the third-largest milk buyer in the country, following Grupo Lala and Ganaderos Productores de Leche Pura, according to a February 2014 Euromonitor report.

The investment into the industry follows a January 2014 announcement of a new $350 million plant creating 400 jobs manufacturing infant formulas for consumption in Latin America and the Caribbean. That plant is Nestlé Mexico’s first new plant construction in 20 years, and part of a $1 billion investment in the country.
