Marj Atkins Dairy Industry Pillar Passes

We are very saddened to announce the passing of a pillar in the dairy industry, Marj Atkins from Leduc, AB. Margorie sure made this a better world. A (second) mother to so many. Marj told it like it was and then challenged others to do their part.  Everyone at The Bullvine sends our deepest thoughts and condolences to her family and friends at this time.

Alongside her husband Norm and family, they ran the prestigious Master Breeder herd, Continental Holsteins. In 2013, the Alberta Holstein Association created the Marj Atkins Achievement Award, a Lifetime Achievement award that recognizes individuals for their commitment to the Holstein breed.  In 2016 Marj and Norm Atkins received the Certificate of Superior Accomplishment at the Holstein Canada National Convention.

Here are just a few of the many tributes to Marj since her passing:

“Lost a great lady today. Weather cows or people she had a sharp eye and plenty of wit. She always told me she had more time than money. Sorry to see you go.” Shares Mark Rueth who worked with Marj with many great show cows including Amce Star Lily 3x Royal Winter Fair and World Dairy Expo Grand Champion.

“Marj…intelligent, great eye for quality, loved to win, strong leader, strong women, great mentor, sharp, dry and fun to be around, she holds a special place in my heart.” Shares Paul Hunt who worked with Marj with Lily as well as many other great cows.

She truly had a love for cattle and a way with people, and ability especially with the youth.” adds Lee Simanton, whose family were part owners with Marj and Norm with Lily.
