Kevin Jacobs Wins Andrea Crowe Memorial Award

Kevin Jacobs – 2018 Andrea Crowe Memorial Winner

The 2018 presentation of the Andrea Crowe Memorial Award was held at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto, Ont., on November 9th during the National Holstein Show. The award is designed to recognize a young Canadian adult who demonstrates enthusiasm and dedication to the dairy industry, as well as active involvement in their community. The Crowe family presented the award to Kevin Jacobs of Ferme Intense in Sainte-Brigitte-des-Saults, Que.

Hailing from Cap-Santé, Que., Kevin grew up on the family owned Ferme Jacobs. From a young age, Kevin was actively involved in day-to-day operations and his expertise led him to work across Canada. He was herd manager for Morsan Farms and later for Gen-Com Holsteins.

Kevin’s personal success story began when he met his wife, Stephanie Benoit, and together they built their own business. Together they operate a herd of Holsteins and Jerseys under the Intense prefix and have evolved into robotic milking. The couple takes great pride in their two children, Eddy and Louis, who participate in their own way on the family farm.

The Intense prefix has gained notoriety in recent years on the national level and even internationally. Kevin’s sense of marketing, his keen eye and passion for beautiful Holstein cows has led him to raise or sell high quality animals. The result of his dedication to the industry is reflected in the many All-Canadian and All-American nominations collected in recent years. Moreover, with only five years of breeding, the prefix Intense classified their first Excellent cow in May this year.

Kevin knows how to demonstrate his sense of competition as a showperson in the ring, but he always does so with the greatest respect for his colleagues. He has also proven himself as an aspiring judge traveling across the country.

Kevin has had the opportunity to manage several well-known sales in Quebec and has also held successful tag sales on the farm. His personality and expertise make him an excellent resource person as a sale contact in North America. It’s certainly not a surprise to see him in the corner of an auction arena taking bids.

Above all, Kevin is a good-hearted man, no matter where he is, he will always be ready to chat about cows with people as passionate as him. Kevin is renowned for being friendly and developing and maintaining good relationships in the industry.

Beginning in 2018, the Andrea Crowe Award Winner will be selected annually by a panel of five past winners.
