Judges Named for 2019 Royal Winter Fair National Holstein Shows


Holstein Canada, Brantford, Ont., announced on December 21st the two judges selected to officiate the 2019 National Black and White Holstein Show and the 2019 National Red and White Holstein Show during the 2019 Royal Agricultural Winter Fair (RAWF) in Toronto, Ont.

The 2019 National Black and White Holstein Show Judge will be Carl Phoenix, Sunderland, Ontario. Carl Phoenix started farming in partnership with Phoenix Brothers, where they enjoyed many years of show success. In 2011, Carl and his family began registering cattle under the Phoenixholm prefix, and they have had several All-Canadian and All-American nominations in recent years. Phoenix’s extensive judging experience includes the Youth Showmanship at TD Canadian 4-H Dairy Classic, the 2018 International Holstein Show at World Dairy Expo, the Irish National Show, the British Columbia, Calgary and Atlantic Spring Shows, the Ontario Jersey Spring Show, and the Jersey Futurity at the RAWF.

The 2019 National Red and White Holstein Show Judge will be Joël Lepage, Amqui, Quebec. Joël Lepage has owned or co-owned many animals who have had success in the showring. He farms with his wife and children at Amqui, located in the Matapedia region of Quebec. In 2012, they did a non-family farm transfer and started milking cows under the prefix JM Valley. Lepage has been an official Holstein Canada judge for several years, and has had the honour of judging several shows, including the Night of the Holstein Show in Belgium, the Ontario Spring Discovery, the Western Canadian Classic, Expo Saint-Hyacinthe, the Red & White Show at the Supreme Dairy Show, and the National Argentina Holstein Show. He was also an Associate Judge for the 2014 RAWF National Holstein Show.
