Johnson Named 2015 A.C. “Whitie” Thomson Memorial Award Winner

The 2015 A.C. “Whitie” Thomson Memorial Award was presented to Jason Johnson of Woodstock, Vermont, during the Supreme Champion Ceremony at World Dairy Expo on Saturday, October 3. This annual award is presented by the “Whitie” Thomson family to a herdsman or showman who exhibits exemplary leadership and sportsmanship throughout World Dairy Expo.

Johnson grew up on his family-owned dairy farm in New Hampshire. After attending the University of New Hampshire for a degree in Dairy Management and Resource Economics, Johnson worked as a dairy nutritionist for a small feed company. His love for cows couldn’t be denied, so he quickly took a position as a herdsman on a small New Hampshire dairy farm.

After marrying his wife, Heather, the couple moved to Prince Edward Island where Johnson worked as a herdsman for Crasdale Farms and as a fieldman for Holstein Canada, Prince Edward Island Artificial Breeders Association and the Atlantic Dairy Livestock Improvement Corporation. After a few years, they purchased a farm in Door County, Wisconsin, where they owned a small herd of Registered Holsteins and Jerseys, as well as custom raised heifers.

Johnson and his family currently reside in Woodstock, Vt., where he is the farm manager at Billings Farm and Museum.
