Fire crews from multiple departments battled a fire at a Benton County dairy farmSunday evening about 5 miles west of Urbana on Highway 150.

The owner of the Birker Inc. dairy farm in the 5500 block of 27th Avenue Drive in rural Vinton said the fire destroyed the milking parlor in his barn. Firefighters kept the fire from spreading to the are where the 300 dairy cows are kept, and none were injured.

“It’s pretty bad because we need to milk them tomorrow (Monday) morning. We have to figure out something. Where to go with them or somebody else to milk them or whatever, transport feed to them and everything else,” said Justin Birker.

Flames could be seen for several miles until firefighters brought the fire under control.

Authorities said no one was injured in the fire.

Investigators have not yet determined what caused the fire
