Eighty cows died Thursday morning when a fire broke out at ferme Yeta owned by Mario Mathieu in La Presentation, near Saint Hyacinthe in Quebec, Canada. Damage is estimated at $1,000,000.
Firefighters from several nearby municipalities including Saint Hyacinthe and St. Denis sur Richelieu. were able to contain the fire and prevent its spread, but could not prevent the barn from burning to the ground.
Earlier this month a newly renovated dairy farm burned to the ground in nearby St. Denis sur Richelieu, about 35 km southwest. That fire killed more than 200 dairy cows, and the Sureté du Quebec told CTV News that investigators still have not determined the cause.
