David and Kathleen Johnston and their daughter Kacee can no longer survive farming through the drought without water, and they believe the NSW Government is to blame.

The Johnston family’s farm is one of the last remaining dairy farms in the region around Deniliquin in southern New South Wales, but it won’t be a dairy farm for much longer, after the family made the difficult decision to sell their herd and get out of dairy farming, with drought and zero allocation of irrigation water making it too difficult to go on.

It’s harvest time at Andrew and Joy Hall’s chestnut orchard in Victoria’s north-east. With 6,500 trees to be picked, a machine harvester helps out the team of pickers, but it’s still a big job and not without complications.
