David McAuley Named 2019 Genetic Consultant of the Year

Select Sires recognizes David McAuley of Okeechobee, Fla. as the 2019 Select Mating Service® (SMS®) genetic consultant of the year. McAuley was recognized at the 2019 SMS Conference among nearly 100 genetic consultants and support staff from the United States, Canada and Latin America. The event was hosted by COBA/Select Sires in Columbus, Ohio from May 14 through May 16.

Presented annually, this honor is awarded to a genetic consultant with multiple years of superior service, a history of high-quality evaluations and the ability to build and maintain successful relationships with dairy producers. Not only does the 2019 award recipient display these qualities, but he embodies the mission and goals of Select Sires’ SMS program.

“David’s combination of positivity and professionalism have made him very successful in the dairy genetics business,” says Lon Peters, retired vice president of dairy sire product services. “He instills trust in his dairy producers and has a passion to help them achieve success.”

McAuley has been serving customer-owners with Premier Select Sires in Florida and North Carolina as an area sales manager and SMS genetic consultant since 1979. Each year, he coordinates several large breeding projects. Six years ago, he jumpstarted a peer group for producers to collaborate and enhance herd success. He has been a phenomenal resource for dairy producers in his region and has achieved many accomplishments. Since the year 2000, McAuley has mated more than 1,066,656 cows and as a sales manager, he recently surpassed an impressive milestone of two million units sold.

“Premier Select Sires greatly appreciates David’s passion for success and the many ways he has contributed to making Premier a leader in our markets served. We are fortunate to have David as part of the Premier Select Sires team,” says Mark Carpenter, chief executive officer, Premier Select Sires.

Now in its 46th year, SMS added more than 3.2 million animals to the program. SMS genetic consultants continue to help dairy producers control genetic recessives, haplotypes and inbreeding levels, while providing service and consultation to create custom selection indexes based on customer goals.

Over the course of three days, attendees of the SMS conference learned about new technologies and industry research, and viewed progeny of Select Sires’ current lineup and potential graduates throughout the state of Ohio. Select Sires thanks the following herds for their hospitality: Andreas Dairy, Buschur Dairy Farm, Catalpadale Dairy LLC, Convoy Dairy LLC, Four Pines Farm LTD, Gasser Farms LLC, Henry Farms, L & R Dairy Farm LLC, Ohio State University Waterman Dairy and Pine Tree Dairy LTD.
