CRI to purchase MofA

Cooperative Resources International (CRI) and MofA, formerly known as Minitube of America, have announced plans to align.

“We have signed a letter of intent to purchase the primary assets of MofA from owners Ludwig and Becky Simmet,” said Peter Giacomini, CRI Vice President of Business Development. “Through this acquisition, CRI will expand its operations with the addition of another U.S.-based leader in animal reproduction. MofA will become CRI’s third subsidiary, alongside AgSource Cooperative Services and Genex Cooperative, Inc.”

MofA is among the world’s leaders in the development, manufacturing and marketing of artificial insemination and embryo transfer breeding supplies and associated products for the porcine, bovine, equine and canine industries. Headquartered in Verona, Wis., MofA also maintains facilities in Mexico and Canada and markets products in several countries around the globe.

“In addition, MofA has an established research and development program, which brings yet another exciting core business to CRI,” explained Giacomini.

Through the International Center for Biotechnology, located in Mt. Horeb, Wis., MofA conducts cutting-edge science that spans across several animal species, specifically focused on advanced reproductive technologies, molecular and cell biology, and DNA and genomics research.

“For nearly 30 years, MofA has demonstrated innovation, quality and dependability while assisting customers around the globe in achieving success by supporting their use of advanced assisted reproduction technologies,” explained Ludwig Simmet. “We look forward to continuing these endeavors as part of CRI.”

Simmet will become Chief Operating Officer of the new CRI subsidiary.

“This acquisition, planned to be completed in the next several weeks, will be the largest single step CRI has taken to further increase our influence in production agriculture. The core business of MofA complements CRI’s existing agricultural focus but also creates new business relationships with the porcine industry as well as those specialized in reproduction in other species,” said Doug Wilson, CRI CEO.

CRI, a member-owned holding cooperative, is comprised of two subsidiaries: AgSource and Genex. The CRI mission statement summarizes the goal of CRI: “To provide products and services as effectively as possible to maximize the profitability of members and customers worldwide while maintaining a strong cooperative.”
