Cogent Acquires Canada’s Foundation Genetics to Strengthen International Footprint

Cogent Breeding Ltd (“Cogent”), the leading supplier of beef and dairy genetics to over 40 countries worldwide, has acquired Foundation Genetics, the specialist Canadian bovine genetics business.

Cogent is committed to improving livestock genetics, reproduction and selection globally through resource efficiency and the application of science, best practice and precision technologies.  The acquisition represents the latest landmark in an international growth programme which underpins this commitment and Cogent’s ambition to become world leader in the improvement of beef and milk genetics.

The addition of Canada’s Foundation Genetics will strengthen Cogent’s international operations and provide the UK business with a strong base and route to market in new territories as well as allowing expansion and investment in one of the world’s most important domestic markets.

Commenting on the acquisition, Andrew Turner, CEO of Cogent Breeding, said: “Foundation Genetics is complementary to our existing business and integral to our international growth strategy.   The acquisition provides us with a strong platform to benefit our international customers with the superior genetic quality of Canada’s herd and an expanded portfolio of exceptional beef and dairy genetics, animal health products and value-added services.

“We’re excited to have the talented team at Foundation Genetics join us and look forward to working with them. Our combined expertise, resources and capabilities mean we’re in a strong position to serve the domestic Canadian market and achieve our international ambitions.”

Following the completion of the acquisition, the management team, sales and operational staff at Foundation Genetics will trade under the Cogent name. Dave Brand will remain as General Manager of the acquired business in Canada reporting to Stuart Boothman, Cogent’s International Operations Manager.
