Brady Rocks the Taste of Ontario National Convention Sale


One of the feature events during the Holstein Canada National Convention in Ontario, The Taste of Ontario National Convention Sale realized an average of $4898 (unofficial) on 86 head.  The sale was managed by Jeff Stephens of Stephens Genetics and Doug Cranston and James Cranston of Cranholme Holsteins was held before a big crowd at Cranston Farms, Ancaster, Ont., on the evening of April 5th. , 

Demanding the top price of $33,000 was Milksource Brady Lyla, a stylish 2-year-old “Brady” daughter fresh since late February who was purchased by Mike and Julie Duckett, Rudolph, Wis. Consigned by Colin and Karen Leach, Lindsay, Ont., and backed by seven generations of Very Good or Excellent dams, she had been first intermediate yearling and reserve junior champion at last year’s Durham County Show. Lyla is from a Very Good-87-USA “Sid” dam with 15,286 kg milk, 476 kg fat, 450 kg protein. Her grandam is Brainwave Goldwyn Lauramie (Ex-92-USA), the “Goldwyn” who was Reserve All-Canadian junior 2-year-old in 2009.

Joining Lyla at Mike and Julie Duckett’s farm was the second high seller, Legend-Maker Defiant Gypsy (VG-86-2y), a 2-year-old Red & White “Defiant” daughter from the Stelbro Renita Ranger-Red (Ex-94-3E-USA-8*) family, who sold for $15,500. Gypsy, who is due again in August to Mr Salvatore and was projected to 257-265-252% BCA, had been consigned by Legend-Maker Holsteins, Mt. Hope, Ont. An eighth generation Very Good or Excellent, she is from an Excellent-91-2E, 3-Star “Shaquille” dam with 14,760 kg milk, 3.5% fat, 3.1% protein (282-270-281).

Rounding out the top sellers was Beckerville Dempsey Believe (VG-85-2y), a 2-year-old “Dempsey” who completes seven generations of Very Good or Excellent in the Rainyridge Tony Beauty (Ex-5E-9*) family, sold for $13,000 to John Stefkovic, Dugald, Man., from consignors Terrylea Holsteins and Trevor J. Willows of St. Pauls, Ont. This young cow has first lactation credits of 12,220 kg milk, 3.8% fat, 3.0% protein (308-312-290) and is due in June to “Doorman”. She is from an Excellent-92, 1-Star “Sanchez” daughter of Rainyridge Talent Barbara (Ex-95-USA-11*), the “Talent” who was All-Canadian and All-American 5-year-old in 2010.
