Boatman tail chalking: Bob Boatman, Darlington, Wis., made East Central/Select Sires history by inseminating his 175,000th first-service cow in late April. As a member service representative (MSR), Boatman provides professional artificial-insemination (A.I.) and heat-detection service to dairy producers in the northern Green and southern Dane -county area.

Bob Boatman, Darlington, Wis., has made East Central/Select Sires history by being the first breeding technician to exceed 175,000 first-services! As a member service representative (MSR), Boatman provides professional artificial-insemination (A.I.) and heat-detection service to dairy producers in the northern Green and southern Dane-county area.

This milestone is such a great accomplishment, because it indicates Boatman has successfully bred 175,000 cows and heifers on the first insemination or first service. Few people in the industry can say they have reached this mark.

Boatman started working as an MSR when he was 25, making this his 33rd year with East Central/Select Sires. “I like working with the people, but I really get satisfaction out of seeing overall improvement in a herd,” said Boatman. In his free time, Boatman really enjoys watching sports and going to Badger football and Brewers games. Other hobbies include spending time with family, golfing, and riding horses. He’s been married to his wife, Ellen, for 38 years, has five grown children, and 13 grandchildren.

“Bob Boatman is a true professional in terms of customer service. He puts the customers’ needs first, and this helped him to accomplish this historic goal. He is an asset to this company and his customers,” says Al Deming, general manager of East Central/Select Sires.

Just as Boatman has reached this impressive number, several other East Central/Select Sires employees have either just crossed the line or are approaching the 175,000 first-services mark.

East Central/Select Sires is a professional-, artificial-breeding cooperative serving dairy and livestock producers in southern Wisconsin.
